Hands On: Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Duoface Tourbillon

In typical Jaeger-LeCoultre fashion, the maison unveiled the latest pièce de résistance with very little fuss or fan fare. Jaeger being Jaeger let the watch do the talking. And the walking. The Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Duoface Tourbillon hit all the right notes, and really solidified why 2024 is the year of the watchmakers' watchmaker.

Jaeger-LeCoultre's show stopping unveiling heralded a new tool-watch-like phase for one of the most complicated Reverso references in currently production. For the very first time, the Reverso Tribute Duoface Tourbillon has been made available in stainless steel. Previously available in a precious metal guise, this stainless steel variant is really rather special and measures a super svelte 27.40mm across by 9.14mm in thickness and 45.50mm in length.

With the Reverso you have the luxury of getting two watches for one, basically. The Reverso Tribute Duoface Tourbillon has two distinct sides. The recto dial features a sunray grey finish and depicts the passing hours and minutes, along with an aperture at 6 o'clock which showcases the flying tourbillon. The verso dial has a lovely silver sunrayed Clous de Paris guilloché dial and has a second time zone, showing the hours, minutes and seconds, along with a day-night indicator.

The recto side displays Jaeger's more elegant and restrained side, with the focal point being that incredible flying tourbillon. While on the verso Reverso Tribute Duoface Tourbillon features guillochage crafted on a 100-year-old hand-operated lathe, with which the Jaeger-LeCoultre artisan engraves each of the 232 grooves 6 times to create the deep and and clean lines you can see throughout the dial.

Jaeger-LeCoultre has utilised the manufacture 847AA calibre for the Reverso Tribute Duoface Tourbillon. This unique movement boasts a thickness of only 3.90mm, which obviously contributes to the watch's slim profile. The 847AA has a beating frequency of 3 Hz, has a power reserve of 38 hours and is made up of 254 components. The flying tourbillon itself is made up of 62 components and weighs less than half a gram. It has a distinct look too, with an S-shaped balance spring and a missing top bridge giving off the illusion that it is suspended in mid air. The tourbillon carriage was assembled by the team at the Grandes Complications workshop -- Like I said, talking the talk and walking the walk.

On a whole, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Duoface Tourbillon did nothing but astound and astonish. Pulling the trigger on a watch deep in 6-figure territory isn't a feeling I'm all too familiar with, but if you're looking for something with all of the bells and whistles of a typical haute horlogerie piece minus the hype and often unwanted attention, then the Reverso Tribute Duoface Tourbillon is well worth a look.
