Jaquet Droz really lights my fire, so to speak. I find their pieces to be extremely beautiful, very desirable and they seem to always tick the right boxes for me. The Grande Heure Minute is a piece that I have a lot of love for. I love its simplicity, its minimalistic approach, and the way seems to exude exquisiteness and luxury. The latest additions are expressively wonderful, and these two are pieces that I would readily and happily part with my hard-earned dollars to acquire.
There are two new additions to the Astrale family’s Grande Heure Minute collection. One in Ardoise, and the other in Silver. The Ardoise model features a slate-grey dial with a rhodium-plated ring, while the Silver variant features a silvered dial, again with a rhodium-plated ring. Both pieces are housed in a 43mm wide stainless-steel case which features a super-slim bezel, shortened and integrated lugs, a pronounced crown and an altogether very pleasing flow.
The simplistic flow of the Grande Heure Minute can be somewhat underwhelming, but it’s important to note that it can be quite an arduous task in restraining one’s self to not over complicate things. To not add that extra dial, or that date window. To not add another textural component. Jaquet Droz seem to have mastered this fine art of balancing beautiful simplicity without making the piece too much of a bore.
Both models are powered by the I 169.Si calibre. This is an automatic movement with a power reserve of about 68-hours. It features a silicon balance spring and pallet horns, double barrels (hence the longer than usual power reserve), along with a heavy-metal oscillating weight.
Were I presented with the choice to purchase either of the pieces, I would definitely pull the trigger on the Grande Heure Minute Ardoise. I love the soft nature of the watch, and coupled with its virtually flawless aesthetic, I truly believe it makes for the perfect watch.
Pricing is ambiguous, but given the price of previous Grande Heure Minute models, I would presume that the Grande Heure Minute in either Ardoise or in Silver will cost somewhere in the region of $12,000AUD.
