Breguet is as Breguet does. And what Breguet does best is funnel a maison full of history and tradition into every single one of its timepieces. Whether it be an openworked marvel of theatre, or a dial complete with differing textural finishes, Breguet has an uncanny knack of creating these inconspicuous masterpieces. Artisanship meets an air of obscurity and disdain for the norm with Breguet, one of the many reasons why I hold the watchmaker in such high regard. Check out these incredible examples of the quintessential contemporary Breguet.
Breguet Tradition Quantième Rétrograde Date 7597
The Breguet Tradition Quantième Rétrograde Date is an incredible bit of kit that features an abundance of exquisite finishing techniques that the atelier has become so well known for. This piece is exactly what you would want in a watch with an inverted dial. Meticulous finishing, plenty of movement and a dash of maddening ingenuity.
Breguet Tradition 7027
Next up is the Breguet Tradition 7027. This magnificent piece is perhaps not as complicated as the 7597, but it is still chock-full of beautiful details and finishings. It's a beautiful marriage of textures and colours, making for a divine bit of horology.
Breguet Le Réveil du Tsar 5707
Here we have the closed dial Breguet Le Réveil du Tsar 5707. Encased in yellow gold, the Breguet Le Réveil du Tsar 5707 has a fantastic hand-engraved engine-turned dial and, coupled with those iconic blued steel Breguet hands, make for a package that is hard to ignore.
Breguet Marine GMT 5857
And up next is the Breguet Marine GMT 5857. Moving on from the look of the Tradition, the Marine GMT 5857 is a more contemporary take on Breguet's watchmaking. It is still distinctly Breguet, but with a different stylistic direction that combines wonderful wearability with damn good looks.
Breguet Marine Chronograph 5827
In keeping with the Marine theme, next up is the Breguet Marine Chronograph 5827. Much like the 5857, the Marine Chronograph 5827 is still quintessentially Breguet, albeit with a more casual, dressed down look. Supremely functional and beautifully finished throughout.
Breguet Type XX1 Flyback Chronograph 3815
The Breguet Type XX1 Flyback Chronograph reference 3815 is perhaps the most un-Breguet Breguet on this list. It has a very traditional look, reminiscent of pilot's watches of yesteryear. Big, bold hour numerals, a titanium case and a look that is unlike anything else Breguet makes. Love it.
Breguet Classique 5177
If you're looking for a dress watch from a watchmaker outside of the norm, then look no further. The white gold Breguet Classique 5177 is simply brilliant. This particular model has a blue grand feu enamel dial with some very beautiful slimmed down Breguet hands, lovely Breguet numerals and a sense of balance that is undeniably intriguing.
Breguet Classique 7137
For lovers of dial finishing, the Breguet Classique 7137 is right up your alley. With a multitude of textures, finishings and details, the 7137 hits the mark of being a masterpiece of aesthetic brilliance and beauty. This thing under a loupe would be insane. Just fantastic.
