Welcome back to Watches of the Week, our weekly series where we feature the latest watch releases of the past seven days. After a two-week hiatus following Watches & Wonders Geneva 2021, we're back and ready to razzle and dazzle. In this week's instalment we'll be featuring new watches from the likes of Richard Mille, Franck Muller and F. P. Journe. Enjoy!
Richard Mille RM 21-01 Tourbillon Aerodyne
Richard Mille has brought together a Carbon TPT exoskeleton and a 5N red gold case to create a beautifully striking yet wholly synergistic package. From the outset, this 42.68mm wide, 14.30mm thick and 50.12mm high tonneau-shaped beast is anything but conventional. Instantly identifiable as your quintessential piece of Richard Mille haute horlogerie, the RM 21-01 Tourbillon Aerodyne's thematic look extends to the dial, which features a blue honeycomb-patterned mainplate. This drama continues on with the titanium and gold bridges, tourbillon and barrel, along with the various other indicators and minute details throughout. The Richard Mille RM 21-01 Tourbillon Aerodyne is limited to 50 pieces and is priced at 750,000CHF.
Armin Strom Pure Resonance Sky Blue
Made for Watches and Wonders Shanghai 2021, the Armin Strom Pure Resonance Sky Blue is a unique piece made in collaboration with Kari Voutilainen. Kari's influence here is clear: that hand-crafted guilloché dial in sky blue. It's a confronting yet soothing addition to the madness that lies beneath and directly to the left of the dial.
Franck Muller Vanguard Skeleton Sapphire
New from Franck Muller is the Vanguard Skeleton Sapphire. As the name implies, the Vanguard Skeleton Sapphire is completely encased in sapphire, crafted from a single block of sapphire crystal. This is a visually striking timepiece that pays tribute to Franck Muller's capacity of making watches of this nature. There are a variety of models, including a colourful variation whose bridges are anodised in a variety of bright colours named the Franck Muller Vanguard Skeleton Sapphire Color Dreams, along with a more inconspicuous model with black-coated bridges. The Franck Muller Vanguard Skeleton Sapphire is priced at 138,000CHF.
F. P. Journe Octa Automatique 20th Anniversary
From F. P. Journe we have a commemorative piece, celebrating the 20th anniversary of the acclaimed and purists'-favourite Octa Automatique. The F. P. Journe Octa Automatique 20th Anniversary Limited Edition is a wonderful rendition of one of the maison's most iconic pieces. It features a satin-finished dial made from yellow gold, is encased in 40mm of platinum and is powered by a movement made from brass, much like the earlier models. The F. P. Journe Octa Automatique 20th Anniversary Limited Edition is available in a limited run of only 99 pieces, each priced at 56,000CHF.
Laco Adds to Members to its Italiana Famiglia
Laco has released two new pieces, each drawing inspiration from the Italian cities of Naples and Palermo. The models are the Neapel 39 and the Palermo 39, both revivals of existing Laco models. But what's different here is the new 39mm stainless steel case complete with a narrower bezel and thus larger dial. They both also feature distinct orange numerals, indices and hands, completing the ensemble with matching orange-stitched straps. Both models will cost a very wallet-friendly €340.
